Why to Use Grain-Free Dog Food?

We are all try to give our dog companions the best, from health care to the leisure activities. Nutrition is no exception to that and it is prone to modern trends similar to those of regular human food. Reducing or opting out the grain from the diet is one of the trends in both dog and regular food.

What does “Grain-Free” Mean?

Grain-free (GF) is the concept of nutrition which rejects grains. The supporters of this philosophy base it on the assumption that the dog is unable to digest grains and some of grains might even cause adverse reactions, intolerance and allergies in healthy dogs. A typical allergen is wheat, more precisely its protein called gluten. Grain-free dog food does not contain any gluten.

Prevention by Nutrition

The impact of the reduced income of grain and therefore the reduced income of gluten for health is known to many people from their everyday lives. Reducing consumption of white pastry, dumplings etc. almost always leads to improvement of the physical condition of the person, it often leads to weight loss, vanishing the unpleasant feeling after meal and similar things.

The main advantage of grain-free dog food is that you can be sure it will not be the cause of any intolerance and allergies. In the first place, it is true because such dog food does not contain gluten and therefore it is gluten-free. Gluten is a type of protein that can become a burden for the digestion in many individuals and thus weaken the immunity. The result of the feeding dogs with grain-free dog food are strengthening their immunity, improving their resilience and health and thus preventing diseases.

Another advantage of this food is their positive impact on the physical condition and the weight of dogs. Grain-free dog food is a more concentrated energy source together with high-quality ingredients and the types of meat which are digested well. Therefore, your dog may need smaller feed rations.

To Be Cheaper for Certain Amount Does Not Always Mean to Be Cheaper in General

Smaller feed rations also influence the economy. A lot of people say that grain-free dog food is too expensive. But they would find out when calculating the price of one feed ration that thanks to it digestibility, the price for daily feed portion is significantly lower than with dog food the price of which might seem economical.

Grain-free dog food has a lot of other positive effects on the health and well-being of dogs. A part of it is usually healthy vegetables (e. g. potatoes) and fruit.

Many people believe that the dog cannot digest potatoes (mainly the starch in them). But that is not true. Dogs have enough enzymes in their digestive tracts that is enough to digest the starch and therefore it is no problem for the dog to digest it. Besides, the crystals of potato starch effectively clean the entire surface of the digestive tract and greatly improve health of the digestive tract and thus the immune system.

These positive effects are often associated with grain-free dog food:

  • the health of the digestive tract;
  • a significant reduction of diarrhea occurrence;
  • the reduction of the quantity and the improvement of the quality of excrement;
  • the improvement of the skin health;
  • the improvement of the quality and the colour of hair;
  • the improvement of the "odour" of oral cavity;
  • the improvement in the income of food even in fussy dogs.

Do you give your dog grain-free dry dog food? Have you got good experience with it? Personally, I wouldn’t buy any other dog food any more.
