Portraits of popular breeds at home and abroad – Biewer Yorkshire Terrier

Biewers are typical small terriers with a joyful and sociable nature but they also have typical terrier features such as stubbornness and the fact they bark a lot. These light yorkshires are great companions for families, even though they need quite a lot of exercise despite their small size.

Biewer yorkshire terriers belong to cute terriers. Basically, it it is a classic yorkshire which is lighter. They are mostly white with gold and brown signs. Even though the breed is still not recognized and quite new, it is relatively widespread in the Czech Republic.

Concerning its nature, this dog is full of energy and has typical terriers’ features. It is very sociable and intelligent, some of the less appreciated features are its stubbornness, dominance and that it barks a lot. But its joyful nature, good learning ability and loyalty can make it up. It loves fun and children. However, it can have problems with larger dogs. However, it can create a pack with those smaller ones with no problems. It is quite a territorial dog and does not lack vigilance.

Due to their stubbornness, the upbringing of Biewer yorkshire terriers has to be consistent but kind from the early age. Punishments would do no good. These little doggies tend to be afraid of the world, therefore you should start introducing it to them as early as possible. It’s a good idea to use a dog carrier for first exploration journeys, the small puppy can see and observe the world from safety there. Their period of socialization lasts approximately up to three months of age and you shouldn’t miss it. Otherwise, the puppy might become a scared, unbalanced and constantly barking dog.

Biewers tend to be very dependent on their masters and consider the whole family to be their pack which they are able and determined to protect if they are stable. If not used to being alone from the beginning, they can suffer a lot by staying alone for a couple of hours.

Even though, they are not very big, they can excel at dog sports. They particularly love dog dancing and agility. They love being active and they need enough walking and other outside activities. They like toys and treats which you can use very well for their training. Their affection for children and playfulness can be very well combined. If you have children, make them play together with the doggie. Children will enjoy it, have much fun and they will make each other tired. You only have to explain to the little ones that their furry friends are fragile creatures and they have to be careful with them.

What variant of yorkshires do you like the most? The classic one or the “lighter”?
