Although it might appear that the cat doesn’t give a tail about you and it is indifferent towards you, maybe you will still find some displays of affection in its behaviour. Do you know how cats show such affection towards a person?
Every cat is different. Some are not shy to show their love for a person in full, some try to keep their snobbish, sometimes even a disdainful attitude. But even such cats sometimes miss the mark and show their affection from time to time.
Cat may feel love for you even if it isn’t exactly cuddly. Well, you are providing it food and various goodies. If someone would bring food to me under my nose every day...
It can be different with wild outdoor cats. They never got into contact with a human in their life and they are scared of them. We didn’t manage to socialise grown kittens caught in such way many times and they never got used to people.
But as I already wrote, the absolute majority of cats feel affection towards their human, be it to any degree. Every one of you probably knows, that it's true. It’s enough just to notice its behaviour.
Welcoming
Some cats belong among the welcoming types. As soon as you step into your home, they rub against your legs, they purr or miaow. In one way they are trying to find out where you’ve been and what you’ve been doing (or if you haven't maybe cheated on them with another cat or, God forbid, with a dog - in such case they get offended and won’t talk to you for half a day), and they are also marking you so that it’s clear that you’re their man and that nobody else can claim you.
Seeking your company
If the cat likes to nestle down on your lap when you’re working or reading, it’s clear that it holds an affection towards you. Some cats aren’t very into contact so they might only show their affection by lying down next to you when you’re watching TV. The extreme are the cats that incessantly get in the way and won’t allow you to go anywhere without their company.
Purring
Every cat will welcome a caress from time to time. Some would love to cuddle all day if possible. Purring is a proof of love. Even though cats purr from a number of reasons, most often, it’s an expression of satisfaction.
Milk claws
If they also involve the milk claws in it (they start “stamping the sauerkraut”), you can be sure, that they really love you. This habit remains from the kitten age when kittens massage their mother’s belly in such way and thereby they stimulate the mammary glands. It is considered to be a manifestation of relaxation and happiness. It is often accompanied by purring.
Showing the belly
If the cat isn’t shy to lie down on its back in front of you and to show you the belly, it means, that it trusts you unconditionally. And what if it lets you caress it!
Eye squinting
Squinting or blinking is a cat’s way of a friendly greeting. Among themselves, they show this way that they respect and accept each other. So if a cat squints at you, you can be sure that it’s content and that it feels affection towards you.
Head bumps
Another expression of affection are cat head bumps and rubbing of their nose against you. Apart from that, they will also leave their scent trail and this way, they are marking you to be theirs.
Touches with whiskers
A particularly gentle gesture are touches with tactile whiskers. It is a special manifestation of affection, mainly if a cat touches you like this on the face. It is a manifestation of love to you. An emotional bond is created between you and the cat in this way.
A hint of a bite
The cat can show you their affection and complete satisfaction even by hinting a bite when it only presses its teeth against you. It behaves this way mainly during cuddling and stroking.
Licking
By licking, the cat shows you the greatest love comparable to the care of a cat for kittens or another cat friend. It is actually a kind of caressing and care.
Bringing gifts
If you wake up with a dead mouse on your pillow in the morning, rest assured that it’s out of love! After all, what can mean more to a cat than to share its food.
